I wanted to let everyone know that my father's story, book, Beneath the Bamboo: A Vietnam War Story, is now available as a digital audio purchase on Audible.com. It takes about 4 1/2 hours to listen to and, once bought, it's yours to listen to as many times as you like. We figured that we should have it available to those who don't like to read, those who can't due to vision impairments, or those who may just find it more relaxing and/or comfortable to listen to someone's voice. Not everyone's a reader for one reason or another. Anyway, the narrator is a guy I was working with who showed a strong interest in my Dad's story due to the fact that his own father (An American) was imprisoned against his will in Cuba back in the 60's. So the whole *trapped in a foreign land* story really got his interest going. Also, he's just starting out on this new audiobook endeavor so I figured we're sort of in the same boat since I'm new to the editing/writing/publishing biz.

Atlantis Word Processor ROCKS! Using it is much easier than using Calibre!

So, I don't know if anyone has ever attempted to put an Ebook on Google Play, but let's just say that their strictness is beyond comprehension.  If it doesn't pass this 100%, then your epub is going to be rejected.

Also, the ONLY other file format they accept other than an epub is pdf.  However, every attempt to send them a PDF results in a poor quality error.  Therefore, epubs are the only way to go. (But getting one accepted is another story entirely)

Anyway, the problem is that when I tried to use Calibre to convert a .doc file to an Epub, Calibre apparently doesn't transcribe things very well.

I also tried different kinds of editors that supposedly check and fix epubs, etc., including playing around in Sigil, but nothing was working.

So, by complete accident I ran across a Word processor mention on the boards called "Atlantis."  Atlantis, unlike other word processors, can take documents and DIRECTLY save them as an epub.  Something Word still lacks.

So, I opened up my .doc file created from Word within Atlantis, looked it over and everything looked good, clicked on "Save special" and then selected Epub, ran it through the epub validator and for the first time EVER...not one single problem.

The only downfall is that it is only free for 30 days.  After that you have to pay 35 bucks.  However, I personally feel it's going to be well worth it in the long run.
